On December 18, 2002 the El Paso County Board of Health approved a resolution allowing civil penalties to be assessed against retail food establishments in accordance with applicable law.

Penalties may be assessed for:

• Failure to obtain a retail food establishment license


• Failure to correct inspection violations in a timely manner


• Repeated failure to comply with the Colorado Food Protection Act


• Failure to pay a previously assessed civil penalty

Civil penalties range from $250.00 to $1000.00 per violation. Facilities that receive a total of three civil penalties within a calendar year may also be subject to suspension or revocation of their Retail Food Establishment License.
