The El Paso County Department of Health and Environment's
Food and Living Environment Program licenses and regularly monitors
commercial service facilities.
Food Safety
A major goal of the Food and Living Environment Program is to
prevent foodborne illness in El Paso County's retail food establishments
through regulatory and educational efforts. Colorado Springs and
El Paso County have over 2200 establishments which provide food
to the public, including restaurants, caterers, grocery stores,
convenience stores, school kitchens, hot dog carts, ice cream
trucks, special event vendors, food warehouses, manufacturers
and processors. Our Environmental Health Specialists investigate
consumer complaints and inspect facilities on a regular basis.
In addition, we issue retail food establishment licenses and conduct
plan reviews of new and remodeled facilities. Food safety classes
are also offered in both English and Spanish.
