Community Health Status Assessment
A Community Health Status Assessment (CHSA) is both the activity and product of identifying a community's health needs, accomplished through the collection and analysis of data, including input from community stakeholders. The CHSA can be used to inform the development of strategies and plans to address prioritized needs (the Community Health Improvement Plan), with the goal of contributing to improvements in the community's health. El Paso County Public Health is required by Senate Bill 194 to conduct a CHSA every five years. The CHSA also is a requirement for Accreditation. Non-profit hospitals are required to complete a CHSA every three years. In order to facilitate this process and produce a CHSA that works for Public Health and hospitals, Public Health convened a stakeholder group called the Healthy Community Collaborative in June 2011. The Healthy Community Collaborative has reviewed the data for the CHSA and is working together to determine what health areas should be the focus of community-wide efforts. The Healthy Community Collaborative consists of representatives from Public Health, area hospitals, medical providers, social service agencies, schools, the for-profit and non-profit business communities, academia, and individual citizens.
