Our Mission and Structure

Mission: Promote and Protect Public Health in the Community through People, Prevention and Partnerships.

Structure: The department is overseen by a five-member Board of Health, with members appointed by the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners. The Board of Health hires the department's director, who is responsible for the staff.

Funding: The department receives about one-third of its funding from the County tax base. Other monies are derived through licenses and fees from those who use Health Department services. The department also actively pursues grants and contracts to provide additional services that help to improve the health of our community.
