Family Health & Fitness Day

June 8, 2023

Research has shown that parks, trails and other outdoor activities provide a connection to nature, which relieves stress, strengthens interpersonal relationships and improves mental and physical health. Park and recreation agencies are vital to connecting community members to programs, services and facilities that improve health outcomes and enhance quality of life.

To encourage and promote these important resources for family health, park and recreation agencies across the country partner with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to host an annual Family Health & Fitness Day, which occurs on the second Saturday in June. These events highlight the health and wellness benefits of parks and recreation to keep communities healthy and engaged. Organizers of the events include members of the community, health care and public health partners, local businesses/non-profits and other public agencies.

Widefield Parks and Recreation is partnering with NRPA for its third annual Family Health & Fitness Day at its main campus, 755 Aspen Dr., Colorado Springs, 80911, on Saturday, June 10 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. They will offer free fitness classes, a wellness expo, water safety information, splash park fun, free haircuts, and more! El Paso County Public Health will be there to offer resources, along with numerous other community organizations. Visit the Widefield Parks and Recreation website here for more information.

In addition to this fun event, there are many other ways to enjoy Family Health & Fitness Day on June 10 and throughout the year. Check out the many beautiful parks and outdoor places in the Pikes Peak region. For locations of trails, open spaces and parks, visit here.
