About MCH

  • The program serves El Paso County children and youth from birth to 21 who have special health care needs
  • Maternal and Child Health staff have expertise in services and resources for children with special health care needs
  • Services are provided at no cost and no referral is required
  • There are no eligibility requirements related to income or diagnosis
  • Our goal is to equip and empower families to feel confident in coordinating their child’s health care and in advocating for themselves and their family

The Maternal and Child Health Bureau defines the population of children and youth with special health care needs as “those who have, or are at increased risk for having, a chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional condition and who also require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children [and youth] generally” (Maternal and Child Health Bureau, McPherson, et al., 1998).
