Birth and Death Records

ALERT: On Jan. 1, 2026 the Vital Records Fee Schedule will be updated. The new fees will be:

  • First copy of birth certificate: $25; each additional copy of birth certificate (on the same order) $20
  • First copy of death certificate: $25; each additional copy of death certificate (on the same order) $20

NOTICE: On Dec. 11, Birth and Death Record will closed from 12-2 p.m.

El Paso County Public Health Birth and Death Records provides certified copies of birth and death records for births that occurred in Colorado and deaths that occurred in El Paso County, Colorado. Certificates are often required for many processes including (but not limited to) accessing a Real ID, registering for school, obtaining a passport, or addressing estate, banking and insurance matters. The process of obtaining a certificate is available to eligible parties and is secure, confidential and simple. Birth certificate

To receive a standard birth certificate, you must submit the following:

  1. Complete application | Español
  2. Copy of your identification and proof of eligibility. Birth certificate eligibility requirements can be found through the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) Vital Records page or by clicking on this link.
  3. Non-refundable application fees.
  4. Mail to address listed on the application

Death certificate

To receive a copy of a standard death certificate, you must submit the following:

  1. Complete application | Español

  3. Non-refundable application fees.

Our office is open to the public by appointment or you are welcome to walk-in. Walk-ins will be served as time permits.

Tips for ordering

Make sure you have all the right documents

Proof of relationship and a valid photo ID are required to process all requests. A physical ID is required. We are unable to accept digital ID. Any documents presented for the purpose of establishing identity or relationship must be fully intact and easy to read.
