What the Tuberculosis Clinic Offers

The Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic at Public Health works to prevent and control the spread of tuberculosis in El Paso County through targeted testing, treatment, and education. The TB program offers the following services to El Paso County residents:

  • TB evaluation and treatment for those at high risk of TB infection or TB disease
  • Evaluation and treatment of those who have recently been in contact with someone who has tuberculosis disease
  • Serving as a public resource for accurate information about TB
  • Consultation and advanced testing and evaluation services for local health care providers

Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium (or germ) called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB usually affects the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body such as the brain, kidneys, or lymph nodes. TB may affect a single area or multiple areas of the body at the same time. Two TB-related conditions exist: inactive TB (latent TB infection) and active TB disease. Someone with inactive disease cannot spread TB and does not feel sick but may become sick at a later time.

If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal.

Appointments are not required for the TB IGRA blood test. You may walk in to the Public Health Laboratory for a TB blood test (with a physician’s order in hand) Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. TB IGRAs can NOT be done on Fridays. The Public Health Laboratory is located on the 2nd floor of the Citizens Services Center at 1675 West Garden of the Gods Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Below is a list of providers who may offer Tuberculin Skin Tests (TST) and/or IGRA TB Blood testing. Please contact the facility of your choice to discuss cost, accepted insurance plans (if applicable), scheduling, and to ensure they provide the service you require.

  • Any Lab Test Now; They offer a 20% discount if you tell them you were referred by El Paso County Public Health’s website or staff.
  • Urgent care providers such as UCHealth, King Soopers Little Clinic, Concentra, or CommonSpirit often offer TB testing services.
  • Your primary care provider may be able to order the test you need.
