Recent changes to local regulations removed the requirement to complete a certified onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) inspection review as part of a property sale. While this requirement has changed, certified inspection reviews remain available under current regulations.
El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH) is committed to protecting public health and our community’s shared groundwater resources through implementation of Colorado’s onsite wastewater regulations. Properly functioning onsite wastewater treatment systems help protect drinking water, neighboring properties, and the long-term health of our community.
Understanding the condition and performance of an onsite wastewater treatment system helps property owners and prospective buyers make informed decisions regarding system maintenance, long-term performance, and future ownership responsibilities. For those seeking additional clarity regarding regulatory requirements and system conditions, EPCPH offers an optional review of certified inspection findings. This review provides regulation-based interpretation of inspection reports to help clarify applicable requirements, system conditions, and compliance considerations, supporting informed decision-making during property transactions.
